With their play “The Fair Trade PLAY” led by director Stefan Bruckmeier, the ensemble of Hope Theatre Nairobi has developed a German-Kenyan production which looks into the issues of fairness and fair trade. The play is a collage of video clips, interviews, documents, songs and dances and provides an easy access to the political dimension of fairness: It puts the focus on fairness in our everyday life and challenges the relationship between exploitation and compassion. Another aspect of the play is the discussion about the difference between social justice and profit optimization in our consumer society. The group’s performers live in Africa and tell the audience about their everyday experiences beyond the usual clichés. Transfair and Faces of Africa / EXILE Kulturkoordination e.V. together hosted the events in March and April 2014.
