ORGANISATION:
HOKISA cares for children and youth in one of the poorest townships south of Cape Town, who have lost their parents and families due to HIV/Aids or come from families who can’t look after them because of extreme social problems (abuse, addiction, crime). It had been started in 2001 by community activists and is run by well trained childcare workers from the community. Also a medical doctor is working from their premises, as the only GP for this township. HOKISA tries to be as much a loving family (and not an institution) as possible.
